An Orange kind of Week!

36 x 36

36 x 18

Don't you just love the background color on these two paintings!  It is actually called Gold Oxide, but I would call it a Burnt Orange.  I was stuck on purple for a while and now I'm really diggin' this lovely orange.  Hummmm.......purple & orange.........wonder why I love those colors so much?

Another one finished!

30x24
$720

I managed to get a lot of work in yesterday and finished up another one!  The photo I used for this piece was taken at Yeamans Hall in Charleston, SC during a visit back in the Spring.  About 98% of this one was painted using only my fingers!  I LOVE these two colors together - purple & green!

Just off the easel....finally!

"Crest"
30 x 30
$900

It has been a couple of weeks since I have blogged, and that's because I have had nothing new to show you!  Finally I was able to get in the studio and finish this one, "Crest".  I experimented with "drips" on this one by wetting the paint and just letting it run in places.  Created a really cool effect I think!  There was also a lot of finger painting in this one.  I have decided the finger is actually a great painting tool!

Just Off The Easel....x 2!

"Bathed In Light"
40 x 30
"Just Off Shore"
30 x 15

Today I finished two paintings......before you go and get all impressed, I have actually been working on one of these much longer than the other (I won't say which one is which)!  One of them evolved very quickly and the other I worked on a little, then looked at it for a few days, then worked on it again, then looked at it a few days, etc....  That is just the way it goes sometimes in the studio.  That is also why it is so hard to answer the question so many people ask, "How long does it take you to paint a painting?"  It is very hard to nail that answer down.  Would you be more impressed if I said a few hours or a few weeks?!  Just wondering.........

Hot off the Easel......8/21!

"Thinking Tree"
24 x 24
©2012KarenAlley
$575

Some of my fellow artists have challenged me to create a painting with NO PURPLE in it!  As you can guess, purple is one of my favorite colors and somehow I end up (sometimes unconsciously) working it into every painting.  So.........look above, do you see any purple?  Only beautiful, tranquil teals and golds.....not an ounce of purple.  But don't worry for those who love purple as much as I do, it will certainly rear it's lovely head again soon.  Have a great day!

Just off the Easel.......

"In The Distance"
9 x 12
©2012KarenAlley
$135

For me, these are very neutral colors!  What do you see through the trees?  Water, mountains, more trees?  There's no right or wrong answer, it's up to you.  This is also one of the smaller pieces I've worked on lately...........

Just Off The Easel!

"Canopy"
24" x 30"
 ©2012KarenAlley
$650

This is one of those paintings that started out entirely different in my head, but just took it's own direction along the way.  My favorite part is the top left quarter.  As I started filling in color and branches,  that section started reminding me of a stained glass window, and I loved it, so I left it!

That's an awful big canvas!

This big ole canvas has been sitting in the corner of my studio for at least six months now, just begging me to do something with it!  I'll have to admit it's a little bit intimidating at 48x48, so far one of the largest I have attempted to paint on.  Obviously I had grand dreams when I bought this one!  In any case, I have primed it this lovely color of Robbin's egg blue...........now stay tuned to see what else I decide to do with it!

Well, here it is, my first Blog post!  I will admit I am a little nervous about the whole "blogging" thing. Although I have not mastered Twitter, I do have a pretty good grip on Facebook, so hopefully I can handle this new piece added to my "social media" repertoire.  I will still be publishing a newsletter every month or so, but here is where I will post brand new works, right off the easel, and hopefully other information you will find interesting as I continue on this journey as an ARTIST!
